Questions

  1. What are the three basic elements of a camera? The three basic elements are an optical element (the lens), a chemical element (the film) and a mechanical element (the camera body itself).
  2. What is an SLR camera? "Single Lens Reflex" uses an automatic moving mirror system which permits the photographer to see exactly what will be captured by the film or digital imaging system, as opposed to non-SLR cameras where the view through the viewfinder could be significantly different from what was captured on film.
  3. What is the purpose of a camera's aperture? The aperture controls the amount of light that reaches a digital camera sensor. An aperture acts much like the pupil of an eye. It opens wider as light decreases to let in more available light. It gets smaller when light increases to reduce the amount of light entering the eye.
  4. What does shutter speed on a camera control? the interval at which the shutter opens to allow a specific amount of light to pass through and expose the film inside..
  5. To get the right exposure for a picture, what three things must be balanced?
  6. To take pictures outside on a very sunny day, would you use a high or low film speed? Why? Low film speed because it is less sensitive to light and needs more time to absorb enough light to make an image that isn’t underexposed or too dark.
  7. What are the four steps for developing black and white film? The Developer, The Stop Bath, The Fixer, Hypo-Clearing Agent
  8. What things are needed to make a black and white print? Drying, Cabinets, Tongs, Stop Bath, Developers, Exposed Photographic Print Papers, Fixer, Developer Trays, Washes.
  9. For a black and white print, the final image is actually what material? The final image is actually developed silver, and by carefully washing the prints to remove all the unwanted materials, these prints can last a very long time.
